- Google’s Nest brand has just launched four new Nest cameras for 2021.
- Including indoor/outdoor security cameras, outdoor cameras with floodlights, indoor-only cameras, and wireless doorbell cameras.
- These are the first new cameras launched by the company in a long time. Available in late August 2021.
In the early days of its history, Nest was mainly known for two things: smart thermostats and security systems. Since Google acquired this company, it has expanded to other product lines, such as security cameras. However, it has not updated its camera lineup since 2017.

Changed today! Google launched a total of four new Nest cameras, at least one of which is suitable for almost all smart home users. Let’s go directly to each product.
2021 Nest Camera: Nest Doorbell
In 2018, Nest launched the first smart doorbell called Nest Hello. Although it is generally a good product, its user base is very limited because it requires a home with a pre-built doorbell ringing system. This means that renters, apartment residents and people who own older homes may be excluded.
Fortunately, the new Nest Doorbell does not have this restriction. With this product, you can use wired or wireless methods. If you use a wireless network, the doorbell will ring on your Google-powered smart speaker and/or smart display. If you use a wired connection, it will use your pre-built ringtone system (but it will also display a real-time feed on your smart display).

The resolution of the camera is 1,280 x 960, and the maximum can reach 30fps. It has a night mode that allows it to see more clearly in the dark, and it even has an hour of recording time if your internet/power supply goes out. Assuming that your front door is not very busy, using batteries, the doorbell can last up to six months. A conservative estimate is one or two months of battery life.
Worldwide, it will adopt a color called snow, which is off-white. In the United States, there will be three other colors: linen, ivy and ashes (pictured above).
Nest Cam (indoor/outdoor)
Nest released some outdoor cameras. The latest-the 2017 Nest Cam Outdoor-is weatherproof, but only cables can be used.
The new Nest Cam not only has wireless options, but it can also be used indoors or outdoors. This makes it the most powerful camera of the brand to date. In theory, you can buy some of them and then easily move them from one location in or near your home to another.

Nest Cam records in 1080p, if the power or the Internet is interrupted, it can record up to one hour of footage. Battery life certainly depends on how often events trigger the camera, but Google claims that a quiet home can be seen for up to seven months on a single charge.
This camera has only one color (see picture above). Unfortunately, out of the box, you need to use it wirelessly outdoors. If you want to use it outdoors in wired mode, Google will sell 5m and 10m weatherproof cables.
Nest Cam with floodlight
As one might expect, the Nest Cam with floodlights is the same as the camera in the previous section, but with floodlights connected. It can only work in wired mode and may require a certain degree of professional installation.
However, the cool thing about floodlights is that they are not motion activated. Instead, they are activated by events. In other words, if the camera detects a person or vehicle, the light will turn on. If it sees a raccoon passing by, the light will go out. This will extend the life of the bulb compared to a lamp that can be turned on only by any type of exercise, and it can also save you a certain degree of electricity bills.
Unfortunately, Google did not disclose which light bulbs the device uses. We assume that they are easy to find in most hardware stores, but we are not sure.
Nest Cam (indoor)
Finally, we have the simplest (and cheapest) entry in the new lineup of Nest cameras. The Nest Cam for indoor use only works in wired mode and does not have any type of weatherproof function. It is an easy way to bring the advantages of indoor security cameras into your home. This is not much different from the Nest Cam indoor camera launched since 2017.
However, Google did update the appearance and aesthetic options of the device. It comes in a variety of colors and has an optional wooden base, which should help it better fit your family property.

In addition to these new Nest cameras, Google has also updated its Nest Aware paid subscription. Previously, you needed Nest Aware to send out smart alerts (for example, when someone comes into view), three hours of event logging in the cloud, and the ability to create custom activity areas. However, for these four new cameras, these options are now free. If you choose to pay for Nest Aware, it will be used for up to 60 days of event recording and familiar face detection, and it will alert you when it sees a specific person.
Keep in mind that this will not change any content of existing Nest products. If you currently own a Nest camera and have Nest Aware, you will need to continue to pay for the features mentioned in the previous paragraph.
We will update this article as we learn more about these new Nest cameras!
