Lithographic paper is made (or printed) by drawing topographic maps to make it easier or more difficult for light to pass through certain places. The thicker the dark areas, the more layers, and the less bright areas. This is a beautiful visual illusion, but these art pieces themselves are not colorful.
The trick is to first develop the 3D model using the lithophane tool to create different elevations (ensure that the lowest elevation is still thick enough to be opaque), but retain the different colors on the model when exporting the model. Multi color 3D printers will be able to add gray and black filaments as they print higher and higher elevations. If you do not have a multi-color printer, you can add a pause on the 3D printing file to switch the filament after several layers to achieve a similar effect.
