With “Sweet Girl”, Netflix continues to produce mid-budget thrillers that have been popular in the past few decades, but now they are rarely seen in movie theater tents.
Like Triple Frontier, Wasp Network, Beckett, Earthquake Bird, The Last Thing He Want, etc., Sweet Girl has the kind of appeal that Netflix knows how to handle.
movie, Came out today, Combines elements of revenge thriller and political drama, telling a close family story with national influence. In the best case, Sweet Girl evokes The Fugitive in 1993 with some Death Wish and Taken.
Sometimes a little clumsy, but with some tight directions, gritty action scenes and strong main actors, Sweet Girl is worth a try.
Netflix
Netflix remains the leading premium streaming service, with more than 200 million users worldwide. It provides thousands of movies and TV shows for you to watch, including an ever-increasing number of original movies and episodes, including Stranger Things, The Witcher, Bridgerton, and more.
Sweet girl stumbled but stood up again
When Ray Cooper (Jason Momoa) learned that a generic version of a life-saving cancer drug had been withdrawn due to interference from a large pharmaceutical company, he reached his limit. His wife’s death sentence was actually signed for profit, and he took the matter in his own hands. Now running away with his 18-year-old daughter Rachel, he finds that the responsibility is deep.
The governor election is coming soon, and the hands of dangerous people are covered with blood. Ray must strike a balance between justice for his wife and protection of his daughter.

Sweet Girl ran into some trouble when she left the ground. It opened with some hypocritical voiceovers by star Jason Momoa, which stumbled in a considerable amount of weak dialogue. When Ray, a person without a lot of money or any political influence, seems to be able to enter the hall of power easily, you have to wonder how the impeccable CEO of a large company with an unstoppable killer on speed dial is so close to the general Members of the people. For those who just want to tighten their necks.
However, Sweet Girl works. most. When you pass through some unstable plot points and strange creative choices, this is a sharp little action movie. It will let you guess through some very crazy twists and turns.
Of particular note is the gritty fighting scenes. Focusing on coherent action shooting and hitting the land vigorously, Brian Andrew Mendoza, who served as the director of the feature film for the first time, skipped the chaotic fast editing and large-scale CGI drama and shot in a smaller but more attentive way.
Momma is a born movie star
One of the most powerful elements of Sweet Girl is its star Jason Momoa. Known for the brutal charm of Aquaman and the cruelty of Game of Thrones, Momoa has depth and solemnity, and he is not always praised. He directs the screen as an obvious male protagonist in “Sweet Girl”.
Jason Momoa strikes a balance between the intensity of his action star and the moments of real fragility.
Even with his superhero figure, which is an obvious shortcoming of playing ordinary Joe, he fills Ray with weaknesses, can betray his grief and need to protect his loved ones. His chemical reactions with Isabela Merced and Adria Arjona, playing his daughter Rachel and his wife Amanda, respectively, are also perfect. Regardless of the shortcomings of this movie, we will immediately care about Lei and his plight.
Ray is not just an ordinary person working in an office, until he goes crazy, it doesn’t hurt. He has rough edges and we saw him training with Rachel in his local MMA gym. Coopers are hardcore, so when they hit the road, we can trust them to know how to fend for themselves. This is just a small detail, but it is valuable character work that makes the whole plot easier to shoot.
A hero worth supporting
Momoa’s star role fits perfectly with his role as Ray’s righteous husband. It is very timely for pharmaceutical companies to withhold critical healthcare if they do not help their bottom line.
The fact that Ray is already waiting for generics of existing drugs is even more tragic. A drug that can also save his wife. Instead, he cut back on food and clothing, remortgaged his family home, and was heavily in debt, only to find that even cheaper options would be rejected.

I dare say you don’t support Ray. Rachel shined beside him. She saw this was devouring her father. Even though she dealt with her grief and started to find her important place in the family vendetta.
Sweet Girl can be frustrating because of its compelling bipartisanship and the spirit that everyone blames. On the other hand, it is refreshing to see that the politics of working-class families have not been reduced to simple red state/blue state talking points. The problems of the Coopers are direct and serious. They exist outside the election cycle.
They are fighting for their families and their lives.
You can check Sweet Girl on Netflix and start streaming worldwide from today (August 20).
