BornHack badge bubbling

Posted on September 3, 2021 by William

In a year of semiconductor shortage, delivering electronic conference badges is a difficult task, so this year the SAO prototype board was used as its badge at the BornHack camp in Denmark. Some people use their blink, but it’s not enough [Inne] Who has to go further A glowing bubble badge. It is based on previous projects Produce silicone inflatable bubbles, But in the form of a portable badge.

The front side of the PCB is a multi-color LED for lighting, and the back side is a small microcontroller board, pressure sensor and motor drive circuit. A small air pump and battery are placed in a pocket connected by cables and hoses, allowing bubbles to expand at will. An interesting detail is the use of a cut hypodermic needle to push air through the bubble’s silicone wall. This is a disturbing organic effect when viewed up close at the camp, and if there is a terrible valley of badges, it is it.

We haven’t seen much about soft robots on these pages, so this pleasant crossover with BadgeLife is a special enjoyment. However, it is not entirely alone here.
