Nowadays, almost all smart watches on the market are integrated with pedometers, and there are some more bulky watches. Tracking steps has become a global pastime and sometimes a competitive pastime. However, as [Luc volders] proved, any such competition can be carried out easily.
Generally speaking, all it takes to fool a basic pedometer is some kind of rhythmic slight jitter. Cheaper devices can even record footsteps with a gentle shake.
[Luc] developed this with basic machines. The output shaft of the servo is equipped with a 3D printed cylinder, which is sized to connect the Smartwatch to the wrist. Then, a raspberry Pico simply swings the servo back and forth at a fixed time interval, and the watch begins to calculate these false steps. On the whole, we bet [Luc] got some inspiration from the old automatic meter winder.
It is hard to imagine an important application of this technology. However, if one does not carefully check the results of the friendly match with his friends, it will be an easy way to win.
