  • Oppo has released Color OS 12 based on Android 12 in China.
  • The Chinese version of the software is based on the Android 12 developer preview version.
  • It brings some UI adjustments and new features.

Oppo finally announced its Color OS 12 software in China. By doing so, the company is the second OEM to launch its Android 12 skin after Samsung. As early as May, it launched the Android 12 beta for Oppo Find X3. However, this is not based on Color OS 12.

The new version of Color OS released in China is based on the Android 12 developer preview update. It is more geared towards developers and tech-savvy users rather than the general public. Of course, the global release of Color OS 12 should also be released soon. The company has not disclosed any details in this regard.

Color OS 12 main features

Simplify UI design

Color OS 12 new icons

Color OS 12 is titled with a new UI language. The company focuses on clean, more spaced page layouts, increased text contrast, and differentiated tones. The icon has also gained a new, softer look.

Oppo has added new animations to Color OS 12, more than 300 to be exact. The company stated that it uses its “quantum animation engine” to “imitate the physical habits of resistance, inertia, and rebound” to make interactions with the UI more real, intuitive, and smooth.

Omoji —Animated emoji

The new operating system also introduced a 3D animated emoji called Omoji. They use Oppo’s facial capture algorithm to allow users to create personalized emoji avatars. Omoji can imitate facial movements and expressions in real time, just like Apple’s Animoji. Users will be able to customize their emoticons by adjusting parameters such as skin color, hair, eyes, nose, and accessories.

Smart sidebar 2.0

Oppo is also improving its smart sidebar-a menu that can be pulled from the side of the phone for quick access to file transfers, applications, messages, and more. Smart Sidebar 2.0 contains six new tools. For example, when browsing a favorite song on the Internet, the user can open it in the music player application. The Smart Sidebar can now also help users compare prices when shopping online.

Cross-screen interconnection

Color OS 12 also brings a new PC connection function called cross-screen interconnection. It allows users to operate mobile phones through laptop computers. In addition, it also provides a transmission speed of 45Mbps, which means you can send about 500 photos from your phone to your PC in one minute. This feature supports most laptops of mainstream brands with Windows 10 or higher.

You can also access Android 12’s privacy dashboard, which allows you to manage and authorize app permissions.

Color OS 12 also has a secure photo sharing function that can delete sensitive information or data from the original image. This feature also supports the secure sharing of videos.

Color OS 12 availability

Oppo announced that Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition will be the first model to run Color OS 12. The limited public beta version of Find X3 series and OnePlus 9 series will be released in China in October.
