- Official renderings of Facebook’s smart glasses have been leaked.
- The smart glasses co-developed by Ray-Ban add dual cameras to the classic frame style.
Facebook has been talking about its smart glasses project for some time, and more details were finally announced earlier this year. We know that Ray-Ban of Luxottica Group is involved, and the glasses will be “connected”. Now, just before the official disclosure of the smart glasses design in detail, the leaked renderings have appeared.
Image comes from serial leaker Evan Blas And display the smart glasses of Facebook and Ray-Ban in at least three styles. These include classic Ray-Ban frames, Wayfarer and Round, as well as green, blue and tinted lenses.
Each frame also has a camera installed in the upper left and right corners above the lens. The specifications of these cameras are currently unclear. The glasses are also packed in a box with a charging cable. This shows that the glasses carry batteries to power the camera and connected smart devices, and probably can transfer images back to the smart phone. The hardware used for this can be stored in the thicker frame of the glasses.
What can Facebook and Ray-Ban’s smart glasses do?
Facebook has been vague about the feature set of smart glasses. In January, it told Bloomberg The glasses will provide “many functions” but will not have any augmented reality intelligence. In the same report, Facebook hinted that smart glasses will allow users to record fleeting moments without holding their phones, similar to Snapchat’s Spectacles. According to reports, Facebook is still developing AR glasses, but it is not clear when they will arrive.
According to Ray-Ban’s trailer, the smart glasses will be officially released later today. Expect more detailed information on pricing and availability soon.
