New money: thewmarketplace, an e-commerce platform that promotes women’s business development, has raised $1.4 million.
This round is led by Erika McKitterick, who has worked for Amazon for seven years and recently served as the head of third-party account services in the United States. This role includes helping the company increase sales in Amazon stores, making McKitterick’s insights valuable to a start-up that expresses its desire to compete with the e-commerce giant.
Susan gates, co-founder and chief marketing officer of the wmarketplace, said by email: “Erica has a deep understanding of the growth opportunities and pain points of markets like ours and will help us grow faster and less.”. “She joined our board of directors and provided excellent advice.”
This round was launched through the crowdfunding website wefonder. Sherri yukel, founder and CEO of big dot of happiness, an online party supplies company, also made an investment.
Super women: Gates and co-founder Kate isler contacted McKittrick at a “magical women’s party”, a series of invitation only dinners held in cities around the world to help build women’s networks.
Last year, the special dinner was held at the fast Penny spirits company founded by a woman from Amaro distillery in Seattle.
The market has more than 4500 products and services.
The total capital of the start-up company is $1.9 million.
