Is foldable really the “new mainstream” of smartphones?

However, when he insisted that these foldable products are “the new mainstream of smartphones”, the head of mobile TM Roh made a rather interesting comment. But is this really the case? We think we will raise this question to readers through the following poll.

On the one hand, Samsung’s latest foldable products have fallen in price compared to last year. The retail price of Galaxy Z Flip 3 is US$999, while the release price of Z Flip 5G is US$1,450. At the same time, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will cost you $1,799 compared to the price of $2,000 when the Z Fold 2 was released. The price of Z Flip 3 in particular means that it is cheaper than the Galaxy S21 Ultra and comparable to the S21 Plus. It must also be said that these new devices are also waterproof, consistent with traditional high-end flagship products.

Again, these foldable phones still have their shortcomings, which may prevent true mainstream acceptance. Samsung has strengthened the foldable displays of these two phones, but due to the lack of a glass cover and proper Gorilla Glass, they are still not as durable as the screens of traditional phones. In particular, Z Fold 3 is still very expensive, about $600 more expensive than S21 Ultra.

However, if you have more to share on this topic, you can vote and comment in our poll above.
