Making pendulum clock with Lego blocks

Posted on March 10, 2022March 10, 2022 by William

Nowadays, the use frequency of pendulum clocks is not high, because their bulky mechanical structure and timing ability have long been surpassed by electronic products. However, they are still interesting and effective, so [puzzgo] began to create a working example with Lego blocks.
The rear view shows the escapement made of LEGO technical components.
The core of the clock is the escapement mechanism, and the pendulum can only rotate in one direction. When the pendulum swings once per second, it turns the escapement gear forward one notch at a time, thereby turning the clock gear that drives the pointer. Its power comes from a beverage bottle filled with water. It rotates the gear of the clock through a chain.

The clock can only run for about an hour, so it is set with the second hand and minute hand, rather than the more common minute hand and hour hand. However, as the pendulum adjusted to the right length and weight, it ticked happily for a few seconds.
We have seen other great constructions in [puzzlego] before, such as this creative magic cube construction. Video after break.
