- A well-known leaker hinted that the upcoming Mi 12 series may have a triple 50MP setting.
- This means 50MP main camera, 50MP super wide-angle and 50MP telephoto.
- Assuming this becomes a reality, it means that Xiaomi will not buy the rumored Samsung 200MP lens. Of course, unless it is reserved for 12 Ultra only.
Earlier this month, Xiaomi announced that it would cancel its “Mi” brand. This means that future Xiaomi phones will only add a number after the Xiaomi name. We assume that this means that the brand’s next flagship phone will be in the Mi 12 series.
Regarding this point, we obtained a digital chat station from a well-known Chinese source (via GSM Arena). DCS said that Xiaomi’s new flagship can be equipped with a triple 50MP rear camera setup. This means three 50MP lenses: the main lens, the ultra-wide-angle lens, and the telephoto lens.

Considering that the high-end phones in the Mi 11 series have a 108MP primary sensor, this would be a very dramatic deviation. However, the trade-off is that all three lenses will produce similar results, such as solving the problem of ultra-wide-angle lenses that look inferior to the main sensor.
Initially, we assumed that the rumored 200MP sensor from Samsung will power the high-quality Mi 12 mobile phone. However, DCS stated that this is not the case. Nonetheless, the expected Mi 12 Ultra may be equipped with this sensor, giving it a 200MP main, 50MP ultra-wide angle and 50MP telephoto. However, this is just speculation.
