Once upon a time, we would run home from the bus stop and watch the replay of Gargoyle and Brady Bunch on home TV. Home TV is a console MAGNAVOX number in the late 1970s. It is placed on the floor, 50% more than CRT. This old TV, a streamlined white ceiling at least ten years older than it, has been placed in the people’s cave in the basement. Compared with the “new” TV, it looks very fashionable, but this is not the aesthetic pursued by my family. They want their electronic equipment to double as furniture.
This small TV is a pleasant medium between these two styles. For us, it’s all about feet. But it’s not a cartoon, but a switch between displaying the current weather and headlines. In the elegant oak cabinet, there is an LCD, an esp32 and an SD card module. The TV uses openweathermap, and extracts the corresponding weather image from the SD card according to the time of the day – the light image of the day and the dark image of the night.
We like it to display SMPTE color bar, which is the standard American TV test mode, because it switches between weather and news. After the headline is displayed, it will automatically switch back to the weather channel. Please be sure to check the demo after the break.
