Microsoft acquires Peer5 to facilitate large-scale video streaming for Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Announce Today it has obtained Peer5, A start-up company located in the Bay Area, provides large-scale video streaming quality for companies such as Turner and Deutsche Telekom. Microsoft will use Peer5’s mesh network technology in its Microsoft Teams collaboration software, which has surged in usage during the pandemic and shifted to remote work. Peer5’s software is described as a WebRTC-based “enterprise content delivery network” solution or eCDN, which runs in the browser and optimizes bandwidth usage. Peer5 was established in 2012, and the most recent financing was a seed round of 2.5 million USD Proposed in 2017.
