Microsoft will provide a new remote collaboration technology that allows users to interact with applications simultaneously during Microsoft team meetings.
The technology, called live share, was first shown to software developers at the company’s build Developers Conference on Tuesday morning. Examples given during the meeting include shared control of video playback in the team, and collaborative annotation and editing of 3D models.
Jeff Teper, vice president of Microsoft 365 collaboration, said in a post announcing the new features that the goal was to “go beyond passive screen sharing”.
Microsoft wants third-party developers to upgrade their applications to use this feature, trying to further distinguish the Microsoft team from competitors including zoom and slack.
The live share software development kit was released on Tuesday as part of a preview by the Microsoft team’s public developers. Companies that made earlier versions of the live share experience included Adobe’s frame. IO, hexagon, skillsoft, makecode, Accenture, parabol and breakthru.
