Two wireless metering companies in Seattle are working together.
Okla announced that it had acquired rootmetrics in Bellevue, Washington – based on a company that provides information about cellular network performance.
Rootmetrics was founded in 2008 to test the speed and reliability of mobile network operators. It sells data to government agencies, mobile network operators, tower and infrastructure providers, fleet management companies, etc. Rootmetrics was acquired by Colorado based IHS in 2015. It has less than 50 employees.
Okla is known for its flagship Speedtest application, which collects crowdsourcing Internet connection data. Okla also owns downdetector, which provides website downtime information. Earlier this year, it acquired solutella, a driving testing company.
The 15 year old company employs about 200 employees in Seattle, Memphis, Tennessee and Dublin. It is led by CEO and co-founder Doug Suttles. Ziff Davis acquired ookla in 2014.
Suttles said in a statement: “ookla plus rootmetrics fully realizes the trinity of crowd measurement, controlled testing and consumer perceived network evaluation. It has a sustainable business model and should flourish through the privacy revolution.”.
