We don’t know why the original Playstation needed a mouse (although we’re sure there’s no shortage of people eager to jump into the comments and tell us), but if you want to add improved pointing capabilities to this nearly 30-year-old console, then [vojt ě Ch salajka] this project is definitely a noteworthy project.
This project, called “USB to Playstation mouse”, is exactly what it sounds like – converting a general-purpose USB mouse into an input device of Sony’s classic console. Assembling them together requires a raspberry Pico, a 5-volt DC-DC USB boost module, a built-in usb-a connector, and a sacrificial controller or peripheral device to provide cables and proprietary connectors.
After assembling the hardware according to the simple wiring diagram, you just need to insert Pico into the computer and copy the firmware file. [Vojt ě Ch] notice that you need to unplug the mouse before trying to upload firmware, probably because the data pins on the two USB ports are tied together.
Don’t worry about finding some vague titles to try your new peripheral, [vojt ě Ch] said that if you start the mouse without a CD in the drive, it will work in the main menu of the system. Now you only need a few raspberry Pico Playstation memory cards to complete the whole game.
