Since the first installation of Ubuntu in 2007, have you been slowly falling into a rabbit hole of computer paranoia like Stallman? Do you hate anything with a GUI now, including browsers? Even if you are behind seven agents, will you use the command line to check your mail? But do you still want to play minecraft? If this is the case, the command line only screen viewer may only be a tool using GUI. Technically, it does not need to use GUI.
This remote screen viewer is built by [louis-e] in Python. Once installed, even if the client is a plain text console, it allows the client to view the server’s screen. [louis-e] demonstrates this in the windows command prompt. The script polls the server screen and displays it in the console using the various colors and textures available. As a result, the resolution and refresh rate are low, but as long as there is no good text to read, it is still functional enough to play minecraft and perform other GUI based tasks.
The following video shows only a demonstration of the remote screen viewer. We can imagine that there are many other uses besides this proof of concept game demonstration. Installing the desktop environment and window manager is not required for all computers, so this is a functional solution if you do not want to waste time and resources installing any of these components. However, if you are looking for remote desktop software for a more specific machine, take a look at this software, which enables remote desktop on older Macs.
