- The battery of the Samsung Galaxy S22 may be much smaller than its predecessor.
- Its battery capacity may be lower than most existing Android flagships.
In the past two years, all Samsung Galaxy S series flagships are equipped with batteries of at least 4,000mAh. Prior to this, the starting capacity of the Galaxy S10 series was only 3,400mAh. With smartphone OEMs aiming to provide longer battery life for their flagships, Samsung seems to be regressing.
Based on the information people receive Galaxy Club, The rated battery capacity of the original Samsung Galaxy S22 model may be only 3,590mAh. This means that its typical advertising battery size should be about 3,700mAh. In contrast, the basic Galaxy S21 has a rated battery capacity of 3,880mAh and a advertised capacity of 4,000mAh.
The publication cited the model number of the battery — EB-BS901ABY — as the source of this information. The serial number corresponds to the model that apparently belongs to the Galaxy S22-SM-S901.

At the same time, the S22 may not be the only model with a downgraded battery next year. According to previous rumors, the Galaxy S22 Plus may also see a smaller 4,600mAh battery compared to the 4,800mAh capacity of the Galaxy S21 Plus. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is estimated to be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which is the same as the current Ultra model. It is worth noting that earlier people thought that the Galaxy S22 was equipped with a 3,800mAh battery.
In other words, Samsung can offset the shrinking battery size of the Galaxy S22 by using more energy-efficient components. For example, it can reduce the display power consumption by using the Eco2OLED display with the trademark on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It promises energy savings of up to 25%. The new SoC on the Galaxy S22 series may also have a significant impact on the power consumed by the phone. However, this is only speculation at the moment, because we don’t know what Samsung or chipset maker Qualcomm has.
We hope that Samsung will make up for the smaller battery on the Galaxy S22 through faster charging. The maximum speed of the Galaxy S21 series is 25W. As more and more companies provide faster wired charging, all phones in the Samsung Galaxy S22 series should provide at least 45W speed.
What do you think about Samsung reducing the battery capacity of the Galaxy S22? Is the 3,700mAh battery enough for those looking forward to this phone? Take our poll and leave us a message in the comments section below.
