- Samsung announced the launch of the Exynos W920 chipset, which will power the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 series.
- This is the industry’s first 5nm wearable processor and a huge upgrade of the Wear OS ecosystem.
Samsung has Announce The new Exynos W920 chipset will power the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch. This SoC is the industry’s first 5nm-based wearable processor and the first processor upgrade for Samsung watches since the original Galaxy Watch.
So why is Exynos W920 so important? First of all, it is only the third chipset that can support the new Wear OS 3.0. Compared with the Qualcomm 28nm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset that currently supports most Wear OS smart watches, this is also a huge upgrade. Therefore, if you have been using a Wear OS watch equipped with an old Qualcomm chip, you should experience a significant increase in performance.
Exynos W920 also promises to upgrade the Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus based on the 12nm process. Compared with the newer Cortex A55 core, it has a Cortex A53 CPU core.
Samsung claims that you should get a 20% performance improvement compared to the previous Exynos 9110 chipset in the Galaxy Watch 3. The graphics performance of Mali-G68 GPU is obviously improved by 10 times.

Exynos W920 is also equipped with a dedicated low-power Cortex M55 processor, which will be solely responsible for processing the always-on display function of the Galaxy Watch 4. Samsung said it will help reduce the display’s power consumption requirements for the Exynos model compared to the previous one.
In terms of connectivity, the Exynos W920 processor of the Galaxy Watch 4 will be equipped with a 4G LTE modem and a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for tracking speed, distance and altitude during outdoor activities.
All in all, this is good news for fans of Wear OS watches. Performance has always been one of their biggest complaints. The combination of the new Samsung processor and the new software experience should make the Galaxy Watch 4 a powerful smartwatch.
