— Internet of Things startup Mason announces founder and current CEO Jim Shaw Will exchange roles with his sister and current President Mason Nancy Shaw.
“I believe Nancy is the right person to build on Mason’s momentum,” Jim said.
Before joining Mason in 2019, Nancy was a product manager for Oculus VR and Facebook.
Jim founded Mason to solve the challenges he encountered during the hardware development process. Mason’s solution provides customers with customized hardware and software for single-purpose Android devices. Customers come from industries such as healthcare, retail, hotels, and government.
The company was originally established in Detroit, and joined YCombinator in 2016 and relocated to Seattle. Jim graduated from the University of Washington and previously worked at Microsoft in China. He was an analyst at the Detroit Venture Capital Company and an executive at a wireless company.

In 2019, this startup completed a US$25 million Series A financing led by Coatue Ventures. After the investment, Coatue Ventures partner, Mark Zuckerberg’s sister, Ariel Zuckerberg joined the board of directors.
Since then, the number of Mason employees has doubled to more than 50. The total funding to date is US$25.1 million.
