Jeff Bezos is never shy of sharing his love for his parents on social media and thanks them for their inspiration and support in his life. On Friday, the Amazon founder released a video in which he sobbed about his father’s journey.
“My brothers and sisters and I are the best role models,” Bezos said of his father, Miguel Bezos.
Bezos Sr. was recently recognized by the statue of liberty Ellis Island Foundation Award, which recognizes “individuals who have the best of these two American treasures: a unique tapestry woven from the story of our country’s immigration history, and the role of the United States and its citizens in supporting the ongoing global struggle for freedom.”
Miguel Bezos immigrated from Santiago de Cuba at the age of 16. Jeff Bezos said he could not speak English and “had to go his own way”. “I think you will also find deep optimism and tenacity in every immigrant,” he added, calling his father “a passionate and hard-working worker.”
At the end of the speech, Bezos thanked his father. They hugged each other on the stage. He was almost crying. Watch Video:

He came to the United States alone from Cuba at the age of 16. He can’t speak English and doesn’t have a simple path. All he has is courage, determination, and the support and goodwill of the American people who helped him. He won a scholarship to the University of Albuquerque, where he met my mother. On behalf of my father and family, like me, I want policy Those who decide can unite to create a way for dreamers to obtain citizenship, and give priority to more common sense immigration reforms, such as reducing the backlog of green cards.
