On Thursday, US President Joe Biden took the wind into Seattle and planned to hold an earth day speech in Seward Park (see tweet below) to continue his trip this morning. He also plans to sign an executive order to combat wildfires and deforestation.
But Biden is not just talking about the impact of climate change. He also took advantage of one of Seattle’s huge resources: cash.
Biden attended a private fundraising event near Madison Park in Seattle on Thursday. Seattle is Tony Seattle’s enclave along Lake Washington and home to many technology millionaires.
So, where did the president go?
According to the daily mail, the private fundraising event was held at Mary Snape and Spencer Fraser’s seaside residence and was hosted by Microsoft president Brad Smith and his wife Kathy suraser Smith, an executive of Seattle biotechnology company Nassau string technology.
Snapp is a lawyer who has worked for Microsoft for more than 20 years and now serves as the vice president of the strategic plan of the technology giant.
Seattle’s “Giro 7” reported that Smith made an introductory speech at the fund-raising meeting, pointing out that Biden’s achievements in the first 15 months were “remarkable” and that “so far, no president has acted so fast in reducing our unemployment rate.”
Biden reportedly discussed the economic impact of the Ukrainian war, rebuilding the middle class, and the ongoing tensions between Disney and the Florida Republican Party over the so-called “don’t say gay” bill.
Not surprisingly, the president of Microsoft participated in the fund-raising. Biden announced the list of 820 top fundraisers in November 2020, and Smith was also on the list. Smith played an active role in Microsoft’s political activities. Last fall, he held a meeting with Biden and other executives to discuss the company’s compulsory vaccination.
Microsoft declined to comment and referred the issue to the Democratic National Committee.
