- Xiaomi announced a new and longer Android update policy.
- The new policy will only affect Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro, at least for now.
- Xiaomi’s new smartphone series will be unveiled on September 15.
Xiaomi will introduce a new Android update policy in the upcoming 11T series. The company confirmed that Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro will receive three Android system upgrades and four-year security patches when they officially arrive later this month.
Xiaomi believes that this change will better serve the longer life cycle of smartphones, while improving the long-term safety of those who hang on smartphones.
This move also puts Xiaomi on par with Samsung’s Android upgrade promise, which allows its newer devices to undergo four-year security updates through three major Android upgrades. Companies such as OnePlus and more recently Oppo and Vivo have also promised to provide three-year upgrade periods for specific models.

How about the old Mi phones?
However, there is a caveat. The new policy does not apply to current Xiaomi smartphones. At least not yet. Xiaomi made it clear that only 11T and 11T Pro will benefit from this move. However, it does confirm that it will “evaluate” the possibility of extending the policy to more devices in the future. Given that Xiaomi offers a wide range of smart phone products, this may be a difficult task. In other words, data from a recent public opinion survey shows that our readers demand that the three-year upgrade commitment should become the standard for all equipment in the entire industry.
What else can you expect from the Mi 11T series? Due to multiple leaks and early confirmations, we have a good understanding of what mobile phones will bring. Xiaomi recently confirmed that the Pro model will support 120W charging. The rumors also mentioned a 120Hz display, 5,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 888 SoC.
However, we don’t have to wait too long for the specific details. Xiaomi will launch the 11T series on September 15.
