Adam selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web services, echoed his predecessor Andy Jassy in his first AWS re: invent keynote speech on Tuesday morning. He cited the huge growth opportunities as more companies embrace the cloud.
However, selipsky provides another way to achieve this growth, making it clear that AWS is ready to further expand beyond general cloud technology into services designed for specific use cases and industries. This runs counter to the strategy pursued by jasi, who succeeded Jeff Bezos as CEO of Amazon in July.
In the two-hour keynote speech, there is a long list of new and updated AWS services and products, plus a history course on technology pioneers. This part is equivalent to the executive summary of selipsky information:
In the 15 years since we launched AWS, cloud has not only become another technological revolution, but also a contributing factor to the fundamental transformation of the actual operation mode of enterprises. No industry is not touched, and no industry is not completely disrupted. Everyone here today is part of this movement.
But although it feels like mass adoption, we’re actually just beginning. Analysts estimate that about 5% to 15% of it spending is transferred to cloud computing. There will be so much work moving in the next few years. This innovation has not yet come; This is a chance for us all to be together.
We are building more and more powerful functions to push the edge of the cloud to new areas using technologies such as 5g and the Internet of things. We are promoting seamless integration of data, analysis and machine learning, which will bring change. We customize services and applications based on specific customer use cases and industries. The possibilities there are infinite.
In the interview before the event, selipsky discussed AWS’s plan to pay more attention to the vertical field of the industry. AWS is a pioneer and still the market share leader of public cloud, but competitors Microsoft azure and Google cloud are more active in targeting vertical industries to catch up.
Keynote presentations include examples of new AWS services for specific industry and customer scenarios.
Goldman Sachs and AWS will develop cloud services for financial institutions to organize and analyze data.
A new service called AWS IOT fleetwise is designed to help automakers transfer vehicle data to the cloud.
Another new service, AWS private 5g, will help the company establish its own private 5g mobile network.
In other news, the company announced three new examples of elastic computing cloud (EC2), powered by Amazon’s custom chips, including the new AWS graviton3 processor. AWS also extends its “codeless” product through its new sagemaker canvas technology for creating machine learning models.
