It is reported that minecraft’s manufacturer announced on Wednesday morning that it will rewrite the user guide of the game to effectively prohibit the integration of irreplaceable tokens (NFT) created by fans with the game, which is a blow to some trading communities.
According to minecraft’s current user guide, administrators can charge users for accessing their personally hosted minecraft server, although there are some additional rules that apply. This includes requiring paying users to have genuine and paid versions of games, and the access fee of each user remains unchanged.
Mojang, a Swedish development studio and Microsoft subsidiary behind minecraft, plans to modify these guidelines to prohibit the implementation and exchange of NFT in games.
In a post on the official minecraft blog, mojang simply attributed it to “employees”. He announced that “blockchain technology does not allow integration into our client and server applications, and blockchain technology should not use the content in minecraft games, such as world, skin, persona projects or other mods, to create scarce digital assets.”
The reason behind this change did not mention any specific name, but pointed out that third-party companies have launched minecraft integrated NFT implementations, which have created a play to learn version of the game, and activities in or out of the game allow players to gradually obtain NFT with minecraft themes.
“Every use of NFT and other blockchain technologies creates digital ownership on the basis of scarcity and exclusion,” the post pointed out. “This is inconsistent with minecraft’s creative inclusion and common game values. NFT does not include all our communities, and creates a scene of rich and poor people.”
Other cited concerns include the unreliability of third-party non-financial transactions; The general dependence of this technology on asset managers may suddenly disappear and take away users’ NFT; NFT generally tends to participate in essentially pumping and dumping schemes.
Mojang further said that it did not plan to implement its official blockchain technology in minecraft “now”, but would pay attention to how the technology would continue to develop. At present, there is no news about how the change of rules will affect the official mine ship NFT released in cooperation with Enjin last year.
One company affected by the change of Mojiang rules is NFT worlds, which claims to be the metaverse platform. It previously hosted a customized minecraft server where users can purchase virtual plots for NFT in games, as well as many other metaverse projects.
Its official response to the minecraft NFT ban, as shared on its discord server, is to explore possible options, including transferring its technology to different, similar craft games, or marketing its implementation style as a service to other game developers. The company did not intend to leave space, but “committed to solutions”
To be fair, this is likely to be inevitable. There is a special resistance in the field of non-financial transactions / passwords, that is, non-financial transactions with the theme of others’ intellectual property rights will still be legally regarded as violations of intellectual property law, because it is essentially an unlicensed securities transaction. Earlier this year, this situation also appeared in the “Magic: mtgdao with party theme” project.
