Amazon received New Zealand Prime Minister yasinda Aden at its Seattle headquarters on Friday, where she met with Adam selipski, CEO of Amazon Web services.
As part of his trip to the United States, Aden also held a reception with Microsoft executives in Seattle and visited us president joebiden on Tuesday. Arden spent some time in the spheres building filled by Amazon factory and talked with selipsky.
Selipsky wrote on LinkedIn: “we had a wonderful discussion on digital transformation, skills development, sustainability and how we can help organizations in the austroa region of New Zealand expand and develop internationally.”.
Amazon announced last year that it would spend more than $5billion to build a data center in New Zealand within 15 years and would establish a new AWS area there. Since 2014, the cloud computing sector has been active in New Zealand. Its local customers include air New Zealand, the Ministry of health of New Zealand, Auckland University, etc.
Amazon’s profitable cloud business continues to help Amazon make profits; The second quarter revenue of the company was US $14.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 37%, and the operating revenue was US $4.2 billion.
Selipsky, former CEO of tableau, returned to AWS as CEO last year. Previously, andyjassy, former CEO of AWS, was appointed to succeed jeffbezos as CEO of Amazon.
Arden spoke at the graduation ceremony of Harvard University on Thursday. During her visit to Seattle, she also visited Microsoft executives including Microsoft president bradsmith.
Microsoft recently announced a new partnership with New Zealand and is building a data center in New Zealand.
Other technology and start-up leaders from New Zealand also joined Aden’s visit to Seattle, including samkidd, CEO of lawvu, which recently announced the opening of a new office in Seattle.
“I am very happy to continue investing in Seattle,” Kidd wrote about his time in Emerald City in a LinkedIn post. “Here, people’s unrepentant attitude towards the establishment and development of a company is both exciting and refreshing. It’s incredible to have local companies like Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon and Starbucks. There are some things in the coffee here.”
