- A very detailed patent document describes Samsung’s idea for its first rollable phone.
- The 32-page application indicates possible designs for the rumored equipment.
We have been hearing about Samsung’s rollable phones for some time. However, apart from a brief description of the equipment and trademark application patents with the names Z Roll and Z Slide, we really don’t have much to do.Now, the newly discovered information LetsGoDigital Let us better understand what Samsung might prepare for its first curlable phone.
The publication managed to find a patent filed by Samsung in Germany. The report pointed out that patents of this nature are usually filed in Korea, followed by WIPO and USTPO applications. If Samsung applies for this rollable phone patent in Germany, it may indicate that the company is trying to secure this technology for the European market as soon as possible, and that it can actually implement this technology on commercial phones.
Details of Samsung’s rollable phone patent

Samsung envisioned a rollable phone with an outwardly extending display, just like the Oppo X 2021.
When unfolded, the display screen will become 40-50% larger, and the extra screen space will hang outside the main frame. However, there is a frame and a rigid board to support the expanded screen.
Samsung is obviously using elastic “carrier film” and a multi-link hinge system to prevent any friction during the screen roll-in/roll-out process, and to ensure that the display is wrinkle-free.
In addition, the back of the rollable phone is also partially covered by the display screen.
Users will be able to use a button to push out the phone’s display. Samsung can include this feature in the power button located on the top of the device.
The patent also describes the fingerprint on the display, the camera sensor under the display, and three rear cameras.
Of course, we have no way of knowing when and whether Samsung will launch a rollable phone. However, the detailed patents make us hope that the company will seriously consider this concept.
