Seattle City Light announced a new service last month. The company plans to install electric vehicle chargers at selected roadside locations throughout the city. The goal is to enable electric vehicle drivers who cannot use off street parking lots to charge their vehicles.
City Light will install, own, operate and maintain class 2 electric vehicle chargers in the city. Chargers will be provided on a first come first served basis and cannot be retained. Each charger will provide a typical electric vehicle with a charging time of more than 30 miles per hour.
The driver will pay 20 cents per kilowatt hour for using the charger. These fees are designed to cover power, operation, maintenance and repair costs, while offsetting initial purchase and installation costs, which are reported to be estimated at $11000 to $25000 for smart cities.
City Light said that the reason why this service is needed is that many older single family houses, apartments, apartments and yachts usually do not have off street parking lots such as driveways, garages or parking lots. This may make it difficult or impossible for residents to charge their electric vehicles when parking on the street.
The location of the charger will be selected according to the request of the residents and whether these locations meet the requirements of the plan. Standards include:
Single family residence, including real estate with independent single residence, duplex residence, triple residence, quadruple residence, townhouse and auxiliary residential units. These requests must be for properties that do not have off street parking (such as driveways or garages).
Any multi family residential property with five or more units, including apartments, apartments, yachts or mobile family parks.
