We all know the story of many projects: build. Failure improvement failure repair failure reconstruction success… Adjustment! [Kris harbor] is no stranger to this process, as evidenced by his impressive YouTube channel.
DIY Hydropower Station
IOT charging controller makes power management easier.
In all [Chris] off grid DIY adventures, his 500 Watt Micro Hydropower turbine excited us. This impressive engineering feat includes Arduino / IOT based control, 3D printing components and a large number of custom processing components, as well as a large number of metal manufacturing.
[Kris] started building Pelton wheels purchased from everyone’s favorite online auction website and equipped with a cheap MPPT charging controller for solar panels. Eventually, the turbine was replaced by a custom device designed to produce more power. An Arduino based turbine valve controller and a charging controller supporting the Internet of things provide [Kris] with everything it needs to manage the hydropower system without entering the power plant. The self-cleaning 3D printing screen minimizes air intake maintenance. Be sure to view the control system demonstration below the video.
When you watch the playlist of hydropower system, you will see that the hacker spirit is very strong in the initial construction, failure, engineering, success, and finally the adjustment of higher power. Because if you can do better, why stop working? We strongly recommend that you check it, but allow some time. The whole series is surprisingly addictive. The old-fashioned writer may spend too much time reading it instead of writing a daily newspaper!
Of course, you don’t need to go all out to start and run hydropower. Even at low wattage, its normally open feature means that even a modified washing machine can be used very effectively.
Thank [Mo] for reminding us of this great series through the prompt line!
