Almost everyone likes beautiful pinout diagrams, but the more pins and functions involved, the more cluttered and useless the diagram. To solve this problem, [Jan Mrázek] create gear, A tool to help generate interactive diagrams from KiCad design files.

The result is an interactive chart that can be viewed in any web browser. Hover the mouse over the pins or pads to highlight these signals with their label names, and click to keep them highlighted for easy reference. Further information can be detailed or brief as needed.

Interestingly, the pinion no Web services that rely on any type of backend. These charts are static HTML and JavaScript only and can easily be included in web pages or embedded in GitHub documents.

If you think Pinion looks familiar, you may remember that we introduced [Jan]Older PcbDraw tool, which converts KiCad board files to SVG rendering, but cannot add tags or interactivity. Pinion is an evolution of earlier ideas. Its diagrams can be used as documents and interactive references without relying on any type of external service.
